stop collaborate and listen
Yesterday, eBay announced it was increasing its fees (not that this affects me one iota). I just came across this article about people getting pissed off and found it to be amusing.

Some eBay sellers lash out over fee increase

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan 13 (Reuters) - Numerous eBay Store sellers lit up the Web auctioneer's message boards on Thursday, railing against upcoming fee increases and looking for alternative ways to sell their wares online.

San Jose, California-based eBay said on Wednesday it would raise several fees for eBay Stores sellers on Feb. 18.

Among other things, the cost of a monthly subscription for a basic eBay Store will go up 60 percent to $15.95. The cost of 10-day listings will double to 40 cents and final value fees that are assessed when a sale closes also will rise.

Sellers complained that the fee increases will take a bigger chunk out of their take from sales. Some said it may force them to raise their own prices amid a weak economy, and others asked for feedback on other companies, such as Overstock.com , that may be alternatives to eBay.

"Thanks eBay! This $3,000+ per month seller is done for good on Feb. 17," wrote one Power Seller who specializes in toys.

Still others griped that sellers of big items like autos and heavy construction equipment will get some breaks on fees with the recent adjustments, and attempted to foment a uprising against eBay's pricing move.

"There must be enough of us 'Davids' out here to whip 'Goliath's' behind," wrote one active eBay seller of everything from bras and purses to a restored personal computer.

Ok. Lets look at this objectively. First of all YOURE BITCHING BECAUSE YOU SELL 3000 AND YOU HAVE TO PAY $15 A MONTH IN FEES?? What about REAL business owners who have to pay staff, pay rent, pay TAXES, get business licenses, pay utilities, advertise? AND YOU ARE BITCHING ABOUT $15 a MONTH?! I hope you choke to death! Thats absolutely crazy. It's a bunch of fat 50-something housewives that sit around not wanting to work for real so they have online stores. Its an embarassment that people are bitching about this - ebay is giving them a platform to sell their wares and not asking for much in return. GO EBAY! Its about time they did something this.

okay, not exactly
I do agree with you John, but I take some offense at your description of these people as housewives who don't want to get a real job. I don't think that I need to tell you that many women a) take great pride in the work they do at home and b) are forced to work in the informal economy in media such as ebay because of their responsibilities in the reproductive sphere as wives and mothers. If it weren't for the *unpaid* labor and sacrifices of these women, the entire economy would collapse under the weight of a lot of brand new responsibilities that it simply cannot afford. I know that you didn't put that much thought into what you said, and I know you didn't mean to be offensive, but I just wanted to make sure you realize that housewives do not simply work at home because they don't want to look for a real job. Love you.
